Run Melbourne’s $1 million PB

Congratulations to the 17,665 runners and walkers who raised more than $1,000,000 for some 254 charities in Run Melbourne, presented by The Age, on Sunday, July 18.

Michael Kearney, Director of Everyday Hero (Run Melbourne's online fundraising partner) says "We are thrilled to see more than $1 million raised by runners in this year's Run Melbourne, presented by The Age."

"We are proud to see record numbers of people participating in fundraising and more charities than ever receiving donations. We believe the event is well placed to become one of the premier fundraising events in Australia."

$533,717 was raised in 2009 for a variety of charities. In 2010, a target of $750,000 was set. However, this was quickly surpassed as participants went on to raise a phenomenal $1,054,952.43 - a figure that is still rising with fundraising continuing until August 18 2010.

Terry O'Halloran, Director of Start to Finish says, "The generosity of the participants in Run Melbourne and their supporters so far exceeded our greatest expectations for what could be raised this year."

Some of the charities that have taken part and benefited from the event this year are: beyondblue, Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Australian Cancer Research Foundation, Cancer Council Victoria, Engineers Without Borders Australia, The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation, SIDS and Kids Victoria, Autism Victoria and Very Special Kids.

The $1,054,952.43 raised to date, brings Run Melbourne's fundraising total to in excess of $1,872,637.43 in its short three year history.

Fundraising continues until August 18 2010, so there is still an opportunity to support family or friends. Remember, the highest individual fundraiser will WIN a luxurious holiday package for two to Broome, courtesy of Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa and Australia's North West. Plus, the top four individual fundraisers and the top four fundraising teams will each WIN $1000 to their charity of choice.
